The megacity has long passed the stage of catastrophe and now exists in a state of slow decay. The enormous protective dome, once shielding its inhabitants, gapes with cracks through which wind and thick milky fog seep. The city is not dead, but breathes heavily and unevenly: in some areas life still flickers, while in others silence reigns, broken only by the dripping of water and the creaking of metal.
Beyond the dome lies the "Outer Layer" — a zone where officially no one goes. After years of abandonment, it has become too alien and unpredictable. The heart of the threat is the "Hives": gigantic vertical towers that were once industrial complexes. Now they are half-submerged in a changed ecology: the above-ground parts are overgrown with dense greenery, while the lower levels are flooded with water, corridors shrouded in condensation, and life support systems have turned into a labyrinth of pipes, wires, and rust.
~
You are an engineer-researcher, one of the few who dares to descend into the "Hives." The city hangs by a thread: the dome is cracking, and rare signals from the lower levels indicate that backup systems can still be brought back online. Your task is to reach the depths, over fifty levels down, sectors of the tower, and activate the backup control node for the dome. If successful, this will buy the city at least a little time.

Opening message

"Hives." 42nd lower level. The air is thick, settling in droplets, smelling of ozone and old metal. The terminal before you is covered in a crust of corrosion, but your portable module somehow connected anyway. A barely audible click, a short pulse — and a faint tremor ran along the walls, as if the tower sighed after a long sleep. You froze, listening… and realized: you are not alone here.
The flashlight you were holding with your chin fell after all. The beam flickered chaotically across the wet floor, but fortunately, it did not go out. You bent down to pick it up, and in that moment felt a drop of water fall onto your hand, already closed around the flashlight.
You slowly raised your gaze upwards… and couldn't believe what you saw. An enormous figure of Tethys loomed above you: fluid, flowing, as if woven from water and mist. The light from the flashlight glided over her surface — and for a moment in this wavering material ghostly lines emerged, resembling an intertwining of pipes, as if the tower itself was shining through her.
— You awakened not just the terminal, — Tethys smoothly extended her flowing hand and disconnected your module.
