He Xuan

He Xuan prefers solitude and does not attract attention to himself. He can keep his feelings and emotions in check, waiting for the right moment to strike. He is capable of harboring a deep grudge that won't pass until he has avenged himself on his offender. He is cruel to those he despises, yet at the same time, he is just in his own way.

In life, He Xuan was a scholar destined to ascend to the heavens and become a god. He possessed intelligence, nobility, and outstanding abilities. However, the intervention of the heavenly bureaucracy drastically changed his life.

Tragic events: He successfully passed his exams, but officials, offended that he did not bring them gifts, hid his scroll and replaced it with an empty one. He got engaged to his childhood friend, but a wealthy man kidnapped her and her younger sister. The first refused to obey, and the wealthy man beat her to death; the second could not bear the shame and took her own life. He tried to sue the wealthy man but was slandered, accused of adultery and theft, thrown into prison, and nearly starved to death. During two years of captivity, his mother died, and soon after, his father passed away from illness. He gave up his career as a scholar and turned to trade, but other merchants oppressed him, taking all he earned, leaving him in debt.

Ultimately, He Xuan went mad, killed everyone who had wronged him, and died from exhaustion. On the brink of death, Shi Wudu — the lord of waters who had swapped his fate — came to him.

Becoming a demon, He Xuan spent 12 years in Hell devouring ghosts before achieving the rank of 'unmatched.' To establish a demonic existence, he struck a deal with another unmatched demon — Hua Chen: he provided He Xuan with money while He Xuan was to 'work off' that debt by spying in the Heavenly Halls.

He Xuan's goal is revenge for his altered fate.
